This ginger haired singer can usually be found on stage as part of a duo with her husband and bandmate, Sam Patterelli. The duo makes music that is an acoustic tangle of broken folk and twang rock with a touch of blues. They have seven CD’s to their credit with the most recent release a live CD and DVD called “Evening Ride” featuring original music coupled with their own versions of cover tunes. Colton and Patterelli’s songwriting tackles topics from domestic violence and politics to relationships and religion all within the framework of roots-rock melodies.
“Soul piercing” was how Chris Baker, music writer for Syracuse.com described the vocal and songwriting qualities of Donna Colton. She is a mainstay of the local music scene and her songwriting and CD’s have garnered national and international attention, airplay and awards. Showcase solo performances at the legendary Bitter End and Spiral Club in New York City and at the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville led to live performances for local and national TV and radio shows.
In 2009 she was one of the few women inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Awards Hall of Fame. For the past three years, Colton has been honored to play the songs of Joni Mitchell at the annual stage production of the Salt City Waltz. More recently she has appeared in the Respect show spotlighting local female artists in music.
Last year Donna added Cancer Survivor to her resume. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer but came through with the fierce and constant support of musicians, producers, media people, fans and friends in our stellar music community. And so, Donna Colton continues to rock!
